As a technical matter, I don't know why that should be, but I trusted my ears in that regard. to my ears, SRPP sounded thin in the midband compared to a follower configuration. I preferred the mu-follower to the SRPP for exactly the reason you mentioned. Then how is a simple Triode based mu-follower compared to typical SRPP? I think you've also tried them. Re: What do think the sound of Mu-follower - Iceman 07:14:16 06/23/04.I actually use a triode cascode circuit in place of the pentode in the mu-stage. In Reply to: Re: What do think the sound of Mu-follower posted by Jim A. When I get a little more time, I hope to try that out as well. Guys like Gary Pimm and Sector-7G use mosfets with and sometimes in place of pentodes. I tried to like CF's-my most vivid recollection was of a huge stage that lacked transparency-but they paled by comparison, IMO, to the mu topologies. I think of a mu-stage as a more refined SRPP and mu-follower. It just provided a bigger, bolder, chunkier, more up-front and lively sound. Like Mark K., I settled on a pentode-based mu-stage that, to my ears, was dramatically more colorful and involving than anything else I'd built. 06:26:09 06/23/04įWIW, I've experimented a lot with mu-stages, mu-followers, CF's, SRPP's, etc. It's long - gonna take me a little time to digest it. For driving a DHT like 300B or 845, and apart from using the expensive ITC and power triode driving tube, Mu-follower seem to be the more superior circuit than conventional CF and plate-follower.
